By Pocorena Agustina, Gorostidi Sofia
The corner of Falucho and Mendoza streets
Summer is the most popular season in Mar del Plata. Hundreds of people come to this tourist city. Due to this, water consumption highly increases in summer. This has been a problem as the number of visitors skyrocketed. To solve this problem and to provide vital element, on January 30th 1943, the Torre Tanque was inaugurated in the city of Mar del Plata. It was designed by the architect Cornelio Lange to supply water to the highest zone of the city. This dwelling can be seen on the corner of Falucho and Mendoza streets.
It was constructed at the top of the Stella Maris hill. Its height is 40.75mtrs above sea level. The viewpoint has a capacity for 50 people. In order to reach to the upper part, you can use the elevator or the 194 step stairs. The building has got a cistern divided in 2 parts with a capacity of 13000000 million liters, and a tank for 500000 liters that supply water to the highest zone of the city.
Being the Torre Tanque constructed at the top of the hill, it was necessary to take care of the façade, so the architect Lange constructed it with stone in the basement and ground floor and the rest of the construction was built in worked stone. The cover was done in slates. The aspect that this building offers at night is very remarkable.
Other elements like the unevennesses and the hills, supply of water to a great extent. Mar del Plata is one of the cities in Argentina that is provided by artesian wells. It was a newness at the time when it was constructed. This is a good example of something that can be beautiful and functional at the same time.

THE PROMENADE
By Iaconis María Laura, Giacomini Antonella, Pasolini Julieta, Hankovits Melina.
The promenade, one step to the sea…
In 1888, the year of the Bristol Hotel inauguration, there were cabins on the Bristol beach. These cabins were connected one to the other in a sort of line. That was the origin of the primitive wooden promenade. The promenade was 3 metre wide and was on the sand. In 1889, the first room of games with roulette was installed on this wooden promenade. But by September 1890 a gale which hit the beach destroyed this primitive place.
After its destruction, in the same place, a new wooden Promenade was built. But in this occasion the pillars were on the sand. The new promenade was joined to the Maritime Boulevard through a bridge. Near there were tiny constructions, where fishermen lived. This new place was called the Pellegrini Promenade. On this, there were many bars and restaurants. This was one of the reasons for the tourists to visit it. But, in November 1905, the fire burnt down not only most of the promenade but also all the watering place.
By initiative of a roulette impresario, the original Prunières Promenade was built. It received its name after the French firm which built it. But popularly it began to be called the Lasalle Promenade. Modern services such as cold and hot sea water could be found. Nevertheless it was a provisory promenade till something more European could be built.
Finally, in 1911, the building of the Bristol Promenade began. And by 1913 this Promenade was inaugurated. It was composed by three sections, which were connected by brilliant steps. Its total length was 400 metres. The Bristol Promenade was a true “custom-made walk”.

In this picture you can see the Bristol Promenade, in 1915, two years after its inauguration. The Bristol promenade was built with materials like wood and Mar del Plata stone. It was designed in three different levels connected with steps. The Promenade had big spaces to walk. The Bristol Promenade was planned to make Mar del Plata a good and attractive place for tourists.
